Toronto Rises Up for Jewish Education

On June 20th, Toronto Jewish Day Schools from across the religious spectrum kicked off a united and unprecedented 24 hour Giving Day for Jewish day school education. Nine participating schools - all of which are UJA-affiliated schools - rallied the Toronto community to donate to Jewish education and raise Toronto. And, as usual, our community did not disappoint.

US giant Intel Corp. is teaming up with two Israeli cybersecurity firms and expanding its cybersecurity operations in Israel to locate cutting edge technologies that will help the firm and its customers fend off increasingly daring cyber attacks. Intel said it will collaborate with Team8, a cybersecurity think tank and venture fund, to exchange information and develop solutions for current and future threats.

Each year, the ShinShinim are hosted by local Toronto families, and engage more than 12,000 Jewish community members with cutting edge programs focusing on contemporary Israel. Bring a true taste of Israel into your home, meet incredible young people, and become a ShinShin's new Canadian family.
Applications are now open to host a ShinShin for 3 months in the Fall, Winter or Spring.

CELEBRATING OUR COMMUNITY'S GRADS:  Graduation portraits of Jean Goldstick (left) and her husband Dr. Abram (Abe) Slone, ca. 1918.  UJA Federation's Ontario Jewish Archives, Blankenstein Family Heritage Centre, fonds 10.

Dr. Abram Slone graduated from Dentistry at the University of Toronto in 1918.  In 1921 he relocated to Ottawa becoming the city's first Jewish dentist.  Slone was actively involved with numerous Jewish organizations throughout his life including the Zionist Organization of Ottawa and was a founding member of the Ottawa Jewish Historical Society.
