People have always looked to the stars for light and inspiration. Stars shine beyond borders, aid in navigating the globe, and provide a sparkling backdrop to our dreams. And though these age-old lights in the sky are so very far from us, we still find ways to reach for them and pull their brilliance close — just like these three projects are doing.

WORLD PREMIERE OF RYOICHI KUROKAWA'S NEW COMMISSION, UNFOLD

By FACT

A "unique and sensory exhibition" from acclaimed Japanese artist Ryoichi Kurokawa, Unfold explores the birth and evolution of stars. Based on previously undocumented data taken from molecular clouds in space, the work offers viewers an artistic — and scientific — representation of how the solar system was born, and how our galaxy might evolve into the future.

Little Ms. Crate

Little Ms. Crate

By Reid Craig III

Little Ms. Crate is a monthly subscription service for girls aged five to ten, that aims to refute disempowering societal norms with the message that careers in STEM and leadership are "for girls." Packed with activities, games, stories, props, and profiles of world-changing women role models, the crates provide enough structure and inspiration for hours of educational, self-directed play — and encourage girls to believe that not even the sky's the limit.

Rooftop Films: 20 Years of Underground Movies Outdoors

By Rooftop Films

Rooftop Films screens movies in outdoor spaces, often encouraging people to join them on their namesake rooftop and settle in amongst the skyline and sunset to watch movies. This summer, as they celebrate their twentieth year, they're hoping to craft a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience that will remind New Yorkers that the city is as dazzlingly stellar a playground as anywhere in the world.
