THINGS THAT ARE BEING ATTENTION HOGS

FIFA THE STORY Yesterday, the FIFA drama continued when it came out that a former top FIFA official Chuck Blazer admitted that he and others accepted bribes while voting for World Cup host countries. He secretly admitted to this in 2013, and the transcript was unsealed yesterday.  REMIND ME WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON.  Last week, the US arrested multiple FIFA officials on charges (think: corruption). That led FIFA's president to resign earlier this week. Then yesterday, the unsealed transcript showed that Blazer was one of the main guys who helped the US build its case, probably in exchange for a more lenient punishment. He admitted that he and some co-workers accepted bribes in the votes for the 1998 and 2010 World Cups. Ruh roh.  theSKIMM This comes as authorities are looking into whether bribes were involved in awarding future World Cups to Qatar and Russia. Meaning there may be more twists to FIFA's shady ways.  Skimm This

OPEC THE STORY OPEC – an organization made up of major oil-exporting nations – has one of its big yearly meetings tomorrow. On the agenda: deciding whether or not to cut oil production levels.  REMIND ME WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON. You may have noticed gas prices are way down lately. That's thanks in big part to US fracking (psst…here's your guide), which has added A LOT of oil supply to the market. Meanwhile, demand has slowed down. But low prices are bad news for some OPEC countries, which depend on oil profits. theSKIMM Last time OPEC had a meeting, it surprised everyone and kept production levels the same. By keeping oil profits low, it hoped that US energy companies would decide it's not worth it to stay in the fracking business. TBD on whether OPEC will stay the course. WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU HAVE DEJA VU… It's Throwback Thursday in Ukraine. This week, a major battle broke out between government troops and pro-Russian separatists in an eastern city. Yes, both sides agreed to a cease-fire earlier this year. There have been small clashes since then, but this is the first sign that the country could be headed for another big conflict. To refresh: Ukraine blames the separatists for stirring up trouble, and Russia for helping them do it. The separatists blame Ukraine. Russia blames everyone but itself. And the US and friends are going to gossip about it at this weekend's G7 Summit (which Russia was un-invited to last year for this very reason). WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR FRIEND WHO SECRETLY LOVED HONEY BOO BOO… And now the Duggars. Yesterday, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, the parents on "19 Kids and Counting," went on Fox News to confirm a few things. Yes, their son Josh molested underage girls. Yes, four of those five girls were their daughters. No, they did not alert authorities right away, instead opting to put up "safeguards" within their home. When that didn't work, they brought him to the police. After In Touch magazine broke the story last month, TLC pulled the show from its lineup. But it hasn't decided whether or not to cancel it altogether.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU WANT TO HIT UP SUMMER SALES… Quit playing games with my heart, Zara. Yesterday, a report came out that might make you think twice about buying that well-priced blazer. One of Zara's former attorneys filed a $40 million lawsuit against the company, claiming he was fired because he's Jewish, American, and gay. So there's that. This lawsuit also claims top Zara execs harassed him, and the case is headed to the New York Supreme Court. Zara's been accused of selling anti-semitic clothing on multiple occasions. WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU'RE FEELING LIKE YOU HAD A TOUGH MONTH… Not even close to this. Yesterday, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg posted about life 30 days after her husband's death.

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR FRIEND WHO'S IN FOOTBALL WITHDRAWL… Here's something to perk up your deflated balls. Yesterday, the NFL announced that Yahoo will live stream a game in October — a big first for the League. And a big deal, since many have resisted cutting the cord because it's been hard to get live sports anywhere else. Cue cable companies popping Xanax and Yahoo popping bottles. Meanwhile, the NBA and NHL finals are going down. On the ice last night, the Chicago Blackhawks (drop the name 'Patrick Kane') beat the Tampa Bay Lightning (drop 'Steven Stamkos') in Game 1. On the court tonight, it's the Cleveland Cavaliers (hint: LeBron) vs. the Golden State Warriors (hint: Steph Curry). This is why your date canceled on you.  Skimm This

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU SHARE AN ELEVATOR WITH YOUR BOSS AFTER PUTTING IN TWO WEEK'S NOTICE… Awkward. Last year, Disney fired about 250 employees on its Disney World tech team. Yesterday, the New York Times reported that Disney gave some of them a parting gift: staying for three months to train their replacements. Many of their jobs went to immigrants in the US on temporary visas, hired from a firm in India. So cheaper labor and a cheap shot all in one.  Skimm This
