Subject: Google Feeds On Facebook

July 19, 2017

Greetings!

We've written a lot about Facebook's propensity for
copying other platforms (and by other platforms, I mean Snapchat), but in the tech industry's never-ending clone wars, sometimes Facebook is the victim, too.

Today, you might have heard that Google is
launching an overhauled version of its iOS and Android search app, which will now include a feature called "Google Feed." The feature, as Google describes it, gives you a feed-like experience that "changes with you," offering you personalized results based not only on your interactions with Google, but also on things that are trending in your area and around the world.

If that sounds familiar, it's because you've probably been using Facebook's News Feed feature for more than a decade. The move is an attempt by Google to recapture some of the mobile ad market—an area where Facebook has
basically been crushing it. It's also the latest salvo in the war of walled gardens, showing how Google and Facebook will stop at nothing to keep you and your eyeballs from straying.

Check out more about Google Feed
here.

Generation Z: the cord-cutters of the future

Nielsen's latest Total Audience Report reveals an interesting bit of data: generation Z now represents the largest potential TV audience of any age demographic. Nielsen defines the group as people born between 1997 – 2015 and says they make up 26% of people living in U.S. households with a TV. Comparatively, millennials make up 22% of that audience, gen-Xers 20%, and baby boomers 24%. Full Story

Score another win for dudes

Among the top 96 earners at the BBC network, only a third are women and the top seven are all men, according to its annual report. Sports broadcaster Gary Lineker earned more than more than £1.75m, while fellow sports presenter Clare Balding made £150,999 to £199,999, or about a tenth of Lineker's pay. Lineker blamed his agent for negotiating higher wages. Full Story
