What happens in Vegas... October 19, 2016 Have a minute? Take this survey to tell us what you think of the Progress Report. The Last Debate Hopefully. Tonight, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will meet at the University of Las Vegas at 9pm EST for their third and final (!) debate before E Day. It will be another 90 minute debate without commercial breaks so buckle up and watch it here. Fox News host Chris Wallace will moderate and he's said his role is to be a "timekeeper," not a "truth squad." Donald Trump, not surprisingly agrees with Wallace. Lots of other people don't. Either way, since Wallace has timekeeping covered, we'll do our best to be a truth squad—follow #DebunkDonald on Twitter for facts. Here are the topics that will be covered in tonight's debate: The Supreme Court. Two hundred and sixteen days later and the Senate has yet to even hold a hearing for President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Chief Judge Merrick Garland. No nominee has ever waited this long for a hearing and a vote. And millions of people could be impacted by the vacancy. Immigration. It has been a big part of Trump's campaign since day one but so far hasn't been a big part of the debates. To recap: Trump's biggest immigration proposals are building a wall (paid for by Mexico) on the US-Mexico border and deporting the more than 11 million unauthorized immigrants currently living in the U.S. Just removing the 7 million unauthorized immigrant workers among them would cost the federal government nearly $900 billion in lost revenue over a decade. More on that here. He's also pledged to end DACA, which has allowed over 740,000 young people get better jobs and more education, earn higher wages, and support their families, communities, and the American economy as a whole. Debt and Entitlements. Chris Wallace plans to talk about the candidates' plans for Social Security and Medicare, so just in case he actually gets Trump to talk about his policy plans, here's a hint: Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy will make his claim to support Social Security and Medicare just another broken promise, potentially costing those programs $1.7 trillion and $1.1 trillion, respectively. Read more here. Economy. Social Security and Medicare aren't the only things at risk under a Trump regime. Trump threatens the entire economy. He's toyed with the idea of letting the U.S. default on its debt, which could kill jobs, devalue people's homes, and lead to the next financial crisis. And don't believe the "Trumped Up Trickle Down" tax plan: his plan would increase the national debt by $7.2 trillion in the next decade, according to new analysis. Foreign Hot Spots. A rather vague description, but we're assuming they don't mean Iceland. In the last debate, Trump said he disagreed with Pence's opposition of the Russian-backed Assad regime in Syria, who have been accused of committing crimes against humanity in the Syrian civil war. Meanwhile, the U.S. and U.K. are so fed up with Russia they are considering sanctions. For a few more key Trump quotes on national security watch this video. Fitness to be president. Another vague one. But many people are saying, and have been saying for a while, that Trump is unfit for the presidency. WHAT'S TRENDING "Plans." Last week Trump finally came out with a student debt "plan." He proposed an income-driven repayment plan that would cap student loan payments at 12.5 percent of a borrower's income and then forgive the loans after 15 years. Sounds good right? Sure, except for the fact that Trump has also repeatedly said he would eliminate the Department of Education and get the federal government out of student loans. If Trump privatized the student loan market, monthly loan payments could jump by as much as 78 percent. Not to mention the fact that privatizing student debt would also be a huge giveaway to Wall Street and leave many low-income students on the outside looking in to a higher education. Read the full story here. T-Rexes. Today, Rex Tillerson, CEO of ExxonMobil, said climate change is real and "warrants serious action" at the Oil and Money conference in London. You may have seen Exxon in the news lately because the company has known climate change is real and warrants serious action since the 1970s (long before most people) but deliberately misled the public about the threat of climate change to protect its own profits. So while we agree with Tillerson's sentiment, those comments aren't enough to undo the fact that his company continues to give millions to climate deniers in Congress and work to block legitimate state investigations in their climate accounting practices. Election Rigging. Actually concerned about it? Trump's campaign manager Kellyanne Conway isn't worried, but if you are watch this video. 19 DAYS The countdown continues.
