Health of State Democracies
  Liberty and Justice For All?
While the U.S. Constitution guarantees certain rights and privileges within our democracy, the extent to which citizens experience the robust benefits of a truly democratic society is often determined by decisions made at the state level-through legislation, executive or administrative action, and judicial decision. This week, the Center for American Progress Action Fund published a report—with an accompanying interactive website, HealthofStateDemocracies.org—which grades and ranks each state based on 22 factors across the areas of accessibility of the ballot, representation in state government, and influence in the political system.
