Ruba Nadda is the writer-director of “October Gale” starring Patricia Clarkson and Scott Speedman. The film is set to release in theaters throughout Toronto and Vancouver on March 27. We found out about Ruba’s favourite things to do in the city, what she loves and what she loathes.

SDTC: What spaces in Toronto do you go to escape your regular routine?

RN: There’s a weeping willow just southwest of St.Clair and Oakwood that I always walk to when I need to get away.

What aisle do you spend the most time in at the grocery store?

The potato chips section.

Which virtue do you try to cultivate within yourself?

Resilience.

The receipts in your wallet would indicate what?

I love clothes.

What did you think you were going to be when you were 8 years old?

A writer.

If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?

Florence.

What makes you happy?

My daughter, Chocolate, my boyfriend, A great dress, my sisters, Walking, my niece and nephews, Salt and Vinegar Chips, The Walking dead, Honking my car horn, Tim Horton’s coffee.

What makes you cringe?

The water. I can’t swim. And for some reason, it’s always featured prominently in my movies !

What quality do you loathe most in others?

Settling for good enough.

What, in your opinion, is overrated?

Boy geniuses – what’s the phrase for girls? Yeah. There isn’t one.

What frustrates you the most?
Writing.

What quality do you value most in a lover?

Intelligence and blue eyes.

What is your favourite thing to do on a Saturday?

Going for a long walk around the city, hanging out, seeing a movie, dinner on a patio.

What is your comfort food?

Fried chicken.

What word or phrase should we all use more?

Goddammit.
